Hi there

Cipherians Sistems v1.00 (Beta) is now available. You can now download it and post your impression on guestbook. This board is open for discuss about the game. Hope you guys like the game!

Finally, at last...it is done now. Enjoy the game.

You improve in your next version Cipherians Sistems:

- true fullscreen

The level is very short, but I liked the boss (although I didn't beat him yet).

I tried to finish the first boss but after 5 minutes of shooting it seemed I was out of ammo although I still could hear the gunshots. Ok, it's a beta, but I wouldn't release it. It seems a bit unfinished. The graphics looks oldfashioned. Put lots of parallax scrolling into it. Replace the lots of black in the caves with textures. Make the levels more lively. Fullscreen would be nice. (Ok, GGT won't have a much higher resolution either.) For the sound: the SFX nearly always distort. Explosions are too loud. And on my machine it seems too fast.

Hi Rekli, here's my little (a bigger will come later) review of your beta.

The GFX are very pleasant, "Old School" and the parallax reminds me "Shadow of the Beast 3" or "Jim Power" for the effect (maybe exagerrated but I really like it).

Playability is a bit strange at first : if I remember, in ACASYS you can shoot in muti direction, but in Cipherians Sistems (thanks for the name ^o^) you can only shoot like all Turrican : in front of you. Won't be a bad idea to make like Hurrican : a fixed position to shoot in every direction (or like Abuse : with the mouse ). It could really HELP in water situation (cause of fishes). Shift and CTRL aren't really hand-friendly : better use some buttons like Z (W on AZERTY) to shoot, X to jump and Spacebar to activate the XOR (nice idea too !).

Animation is ok, there's still a few work to make on the main character, but it's nice enough for a beta ! The game is really (too ?) fast on good configuration.

Sounds & Musics are excellent, like Marcus said : explosions are too loud.

Longevity :
The beta level is really short, maybe too, but it allow players to see a nice sample of the game : water deplacements, climbings, ennemies and XOR system.

Conclusion :
The first look is not bad, really it's a good work I think. There's some work to do, better listen to people that tested Cipherians Sistems, feedback is here for !

Graphics are good, love the music and voice.
In fact the music is going on my iPod soon.

Gameplay is much too slow.
I like hanging off the walls, but this needs more manouvrability.

Directional Fire, or mouse control fire (such as in Abuse), would be good to help defeat the boss, and possibly that flying saucer baddie.

Crouch should be lower, the character could be about half the hight, but a little wider.

Jump could do with a 50% increase, If there's limited ammo then allow us to switch between weapon types.

Sheild doesn't need to be so big, having it as 1 or 2 extra pixels around the character would do the job.

m not sure if that is possible, but I give it a try..

Altought the game is using some old school graphics, it might end up like that, however the game is not 16 colors but 32. There is possible to change this to 16 million colors.

Already done for the next version, there are now more layers for parallax scrooling.

The thing is, this game is more a complex mix between contra and turrican, but the multi direction is going to be included in the next version, hopefully 32 direction in action. However, you may use only your eletric gun, like Super turrican 2 and it is a bit weaker than most of the weapon but this is all about tactic.

Well, perhaps that might be changed but you have to use only 2 buttons and thats it.

I think you mean XOR, no thats not shield but however, shield might also be on the game in the next update and it wont be that big

Actualy if you could make the game full screen but keep the resoloution the same that'd be brilliant.

I have an option to do that, I can strecth the screen to full screen size but I am not sure if that will slowdown on most of the cpu and I dont usually like streched game, cause the pixel gets a really bad look.

However, I can also scale the game to x2 but that will take it longer and code it again but the good thing is that you still keep the same resolution, as with this possible it can be played 800x600 with full screen or 640x480.

Which programming language do you use for Cypherian Systems? And which APIs for gfx, sound etc.? With most of the modern APIs/Libs it should be easy to switch to fullscreen. Or you could try to switch the desktop resolution to the resolution your game needs. But don't forget to switch back at exit, so people won't be angry

To answer your question, there is no APIs/Libs in this language but there are different extensions that can be used as it. However, the author who made the desktop settings for the language has only left it with 640x480 or higher so the game cannot be run with fullscreen, but the language itself can be only streched and that will make game much slower, however it works fine on mine. There is also MMF, more modern than TGF and its is twice better than my langauge with same sources, so if I get that the problem would solve very quickly but since I using TGF, I gotta to do all by myself with stuff and it takes some time.

However, it is still early to tell you that.

Ah, i see. Hmm what a pity. So I guess there won't be a free level editor either, since your're doing the levels with a already given program from the TGF.

yep, fun, though i really hope the main release will be full screen, i can't cope with playing in such a small window!
