Hey there. I just checked out your latest Beta Cypherian Systems. First off I'd like to say I am a HUGE Turrican fan. Although I didn't grow up with the Amiga because I live in the U.S, I played the original Turrican for the Amiga, T2002, and Turrican 3, well it was Mega Turrican on the Sega Genesis/MegaDrive but it is practically Turrican 3 otherwise. That is my closest to playing the three original Amiga Turricans. Besides that, I have played Super Turrican 1 (I own it), and a little bit of ST2 on ROM.... and I played T32K, lol, that is always fun ^^

Anyways, hearing this was like Turrican (let alone a 2d action shooter, something you don't get to see much of these days), I had to try it. I will try to be as most optimistic as I can, and I hope you can hear me out. It is an outstanding game, and not TOO Turrican either. It reminded me of several titles (Turrican, Contra, and even VectorMan and Mega Man X for some reason). I noticed you had the robot charcter able to climb walls like in Contra III. I guess it reminded me of Mega Man X because of the climbing walls thing, and the WARNING that came up before the boss (like in Mega Man X4). I really liked the standard machine gun. As week as it is, I like how realistic it was compared to older 2d scrollers having bullets come out of guns making it look retro and cheesy (turrican, for example, did it). I don't mind power ups guns having bullets (duh, they look cool), but for a standard machine gun or SMG of the sort, I like the quick bullets like in a First Person Shooter. Nice job on that!

Here are some pros. and cons. on how I viewed the game. YES I do understand that it is only a beta right now, I hope you don't take this too personally, it is a great game:

Pros.

- Pretty good music, especially the level 1 theme
- Cool standard machine gun
- Superb graphics! I'd sure make a cool SNES game
- Nice wall climbing and underwater features
- Cool boss (hope to see more big bosses along the way!)
- Nice weapons and enemies

Cons.

- Spreader fires too slowly
- Boss takes way too long to kill (with the Spreader, anyways)
- I know you tried to make it Turrican-like, but I wish you could atleast aim up and shoot (something I hated about Turrican as well)
- You said you could use a smartbomb, but it was more like a force feild and proved useless on the boss
- Hated that girl voice. Lol, yeah it's just me but I recall Super Turrican 2 doing the same thing when picking up weapons and such and I hated it. I like it in Super Turrican 1 or maybe Vectorman 2 (since the main charcter of this game is a robot) voices how they were mature and serious, and it somehow adds maturity and badass attitude to the game. Again, this doesn't flaw the game in any way, it's all just IMO

Well with all that said, awsome job! Some things I'd hope to see on a future release are more weapons, longer levels, more enmies, and even if you could somehow make a co-op feature (I understand if you don't, since it wouldn't be very Turrican-like) would be AWSOME. Still, I'm sure the finished version of this will be outstanding, and it will stand amongst those other legendary shooters of the past. Can't wait for a future release =D

Contra, thanks for such detailed comments. It really glads me that you enjoy the game but beware, as everyone else...it's just a BETA version and of course, the process of this beta version was in early statement so basically, it contains old gfx, bugs, glitches etc. I really can't say that I'm satisfied with the result of this so I really don't care about the critics.

Anyway, I highly recommend you to wait for the new upcoming demo version at this year. This version features better graphics, better gameplay, better performence, better music and sound fx and of course, everything else is just better!

I try to answer some of your comments.

@Contra: I noticed you had the robot charcter able to climb walls like in Contra III.

Yes, as the new version will have better climb features.

@Contra: Superb graphics! I'd sure make a cool SNES game

Believe me, the new version will have outstanding graphics, more visuals, better effects, more parallax graphics and layers. The game looks much better now, look for the screenshots for example.

@Contra: Spreader fires too slowly

The spreadshot is a bit faster now.

@Contra: I know you tried to make it Turrican-like, but I wish you could atleast aim up and shoot (something I hated about Turrican as well)

Theres been a lot of changes, regardless on gameplay system. Its more dynamic, more intense and more functions. You can rotate your weapon in 360 degree in the new version. This is what turrican game style should be!

@Contra: You said you could use a smartbomb, but it was more like a force feild and proved useless on the boss.

Actually, you can use the smartbomb if you press both of the buttons when the power gauge is full but since this new gameplay system is replaced, the force field or shiled or whatever you may call is removed and being replaced by something else. That thing was pointless anyway and yet, you only need to press one button to perform the smartbomb. The controls are better aswell.

@Contra:Some things I'd hope to see on a future release are more weapons, longer levels, more enmies, and even if you could somehow make a co-op feature.

The new version will have quite a few new weapons and the levels are bigger with lots of enemies. I dont think co-op feature would be something.

There are more stuff and features of this game, so Ill suggest you join the forum for more discussions like this. I might tell you more about it

Thanks again!

Are in the Demo beta version 1.01 only the first or more Levels? I saw some good screenshoots at your Homepage. Now I think the Level in the Screenshoots are in the nex Beta version. Is that right???

Hey, thanks for the reply! I tried the game again today, lol, the boss is ALOT easier when using that rapid boomerang looking beam (sorry, dunno what it's called, I'll call it the Lazer), yet I still can't beat the boss! I get him down to 200-100 and he freakin kills me! GRR!! Ah well, atleast it's challenging

Oh, and I discovered a glitch. When I got the Lazer at the beginning of the level to the top right (where you climb the wall where the boulder falls), the bullets just dissapeared yet you could still hear the sound effect when you fire. It finally worked when I made it to the water. Yeah, I know this is a Beta and all, and I know it is minor, I'm just saying that incase you weren't aware is all.

Ok, some things I want to reiterate:

"@Contra: I noticed you had the robot charcter able to climb walls like in Contra III.

Yes, as the new version will have better climb features."

So, by better climb features, do you mean you can climb on the ceiling as well (like in Contra III)? If this is too personal and secretive, I'll understand.

Aside from that, everything else seems to be going really smooth I presume! I'm glad about that 360 turn. I remember in Super Turrican and T2002 (it originally started in Turrican II) doing the 360 turn as well. Sadly, in games like the original Turrican, and Mega Turrican (Turrican 3), that awsome feature wasn't present. I don't get why they'd take such a cool feature out in thier sequel to Turrican II. Atleast Super Turrican 1 and 2 had the 360 ice beam (rip off of Metroid, lol). I'm also happy to see you make easier controls and replace the shield. I look forward to the further improved Spreader, and well from what you are telling me, this is gonna be one kickass game ^^

I understand about the co-op, I hadn't taken the consideration that this game is meant for using a keyboard, and these games aren't meant for keyboard sharing >_<

Alright, I'll look at the forums. I saw some screens of the character performing new moves, theres a main menu, and I'm seeing some new things. Well, thanks for the reply and keep up the great work!

Well, actually Turrican had the 360° weapon from the very first game on (Yes, the original Turrican)!

Just press a bit longer the fire button, and see, what happens. ( http://bronko.turricanforever.de/Bilder/T1Amiga2.GIF Amigashot, but the C64 version has this of course, too...)

But you are right with the fact, that Megaturrican/Turrican3 don't have this feature.

OH YEAH! How could I be so stupid!? In Turrican 1, it was that lazer, and Turrican II it looked more 3D (Turrican moved along with the gun), and besides a lazer, it was some kinda beam that was also cooler.

Yes, Turrican 3/Mega Turrican had the rope and took out that awsome beam =(

@RuvF: Are in the Demo beta version 1.01 only the first or more Levels?

The beta has a quite relative short level, so it's nonthing particular. Therefore, demo version will feature bigger level.

@RuvF: I saw some good screenshoots at your Homepage. Now I think the Level in the Screenshoots are in the nex Beta version. Is that right???

They are from the upcoming demo version, not the next beta version.

@Contra: Oh, and I discovered a glitch.

Yes, I'm aware of that glitch. Seems like you play the old version of beta 1.00. This version is build with TGF which is limited to 300 objects. Since I got MMF, the problem is solved in version 1.01 but the fact that it's still beta, there isin't much I could do.

@Contra: So, by better climb features, do you mean you can climb on the ceiling as well (like in Contra III)? If this is too personal and secretive, I'll understand.

Not at all. An example for better climb featuring is that now you can jump wall to wall, which didn't feature on the beta version.

@Contra: I understand about the co-op, I hadn't taken the consideration that this game is meant for using a keyboard, and these games aren't meant for keyboard sharing >_<

There is a high possibility to switch from keyboard to joystick in no time, but the problem is the complicated codes on the game. Ill need to ask someone for a help on this case.

Oh, yeah jumping wall-to-wall will be great, and I played the Beta 1.01 which had the glitch, but hey, it's just a beta, I'll get over it

Like I said, it's okay about the co-op. This game is probably better off for Single player because if it IS like Turrican, it should have big levels and secret spots which may not work so well with two people; it's not all run-an-gun like Contra, where Co-op is easily possible. I understand. But thanks for considering and responding =D

Contra@: Your opinions are always welcome.

By the way, I made some several changes around with the game.

-New Logo for Banq-it
-New remade background of the ingame (Yes, this means that it dosen't look much like Acsys anymore) removed the iceblocks and replaced something better, like more parallax layers and stuff like that.

So Contra, you need to register on the forum now so we can discuss more about the game and other general stuff =D
